The beach at this laid-back surf town is lined with local restaurants where you can dine al fresco right on the beach. Enjoy the fresh catch of the day served with tostones – a Dominican specialty made with fried plantain.

Sporty types will want to visit one of many surf schools located along the beach. A qualified instructor will take you in to gentle waves that are perfect for beginners. Expert surfers can paddle a bit further and test their skills in this dynamic sport. One way or another, Macao Beach is the perfect spot to make your fantasy of a surfer’s life come true – even if just for a day.

Lots of people love to dance, but for Dominicans it is a passion. Merengue and Bachata were invented here. Visit the discotheque Coco Bongo, adored by Dominicans and visitors alike, and there is a good chance someone will show you some of the most popular dances. The steps are simple, the energy is exhilarating and the party atmosphere is contagious. Coco Bongo also features live performances and a chance to see a spectacle almost every night.

After an exciting night at the disco, you might want to get back in touch with nature. At the Parque Ecologico Ojos Indigenas, visitors can wander through a 1,500-acre nature reserve and visit 12 freshwater lagoons in the midst of cooling plant life where you can spot iguanas and other indigenous wildlife. This reserve is a paradise for bird watchers as it is also the habitat for hundreds of bird species.

Punta Cana, host of the PGA Tour, is a golfer’s paradise. Visitors can experience a different course every day, including courses designed by world famous names including Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Jack Nicklaus. Punta Cana Resort and Club alone features 45 holes of Championship golf with six ocean front and 14 oceanview holes at Tom Fazios Corales course and Pete Dye’s La Cana.
